In the role of Buyer, you will be responsible for implementing purchasing strategies including selecting vendors, assessing vendor capabilities, developing alternate sources, and evaluating vendor performance for the Atlas Copco, New Hudson, MI facility.


  • Implement procurement strategies.
  • Research and validate new suppliers and technologies.
  • Develop and maintain request for quotes.
  • Negotiate contracts.
  • Resolve contract issues and disputes.
  • Manage supplier relationships.
  • Research and report commodity changes and trends.
  • Maintain approved supplier and qualified bidders list.
  • Monitor supplier performance and responsiveness for cost, quality and delivery.
  • Pursue and implement cost reductions.
  • Assure purchasing documents are properly completed and the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate.
  • Other operational functions as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in SCM or related functional area.
  • Hands-on experience with computerized purchasing systems.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyze situations, set/adjust priorities and use sound decision-making skills.
  • Professional demeanor with superior communication skills.
  • Demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.
  • Ability to organize data and make presentations to support the decision making process.
  • Computer literacy with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Cross-functional experience with finance, engineering, quality and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply commodity strategies and cost models.

Required Education

  • Degree in supply chain management or related field preferred
